Inyo County is located in east-central California on the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and southeast of Yosemite National Park. The county seat is Independence. It includes the Owens River Valley flanked by the Eastern Sierras and the equally tall White Mountains and Inyo Mountains on the east. The Saline Valley is beyond.

Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the Continental United States, is located on Inyo County's western border (with Tulare County). The Badwater Basin, in Death Valley National Park, is the lowest point and place in North America and is in eastern Inyo County. The two points are not visible from each other, but both can be observed from the Panamint Range on the west side of Death Valley, above the Panamint Valley.

California, the Golden State. It is BIG. If you get to go once in your life time these are "must explore" areas to consider: The Cascades of northern California, the Central Coast where doing the coast highway is imperative, and SanFrancisco and the entire Bay Area. For something entirely out of this world we recommend Death Valley and the Califonia deserts. Of course there are other areas you might like, (a true exploration of this fabulous state can take a life time), so make good use of this site to get around. We also make our entire database available to you on your cell, so if you are on the road use VISNETMP.COM.
