The current county seat is Alturas, the county's only incorporated city. Previous county seats include Lake City and Centerville, which are now ghost towns.
The county's official slogans include, "The last best place," and "Where the West still lives." A large portion of Modoc County is federal land.

California, the Golden State. It is BIG. If you get to go once in your life time these are "must explore" areas to consider: The Cascades
of northern California, the Central Coast
where doing the coast highway is imperative, and SanFrancisco and the entire Bay Area
. For something entirely out of this world we recommend Death Valley and the Califonia deserts
. Of course there are other areas you might like, (a true exploration of this fabulous state can take a life time), so make good use of this site to get around. We also make our entire database available to you on your cell, so if you are on the road use VISNETMP.COM
